LOOK AT WHERE THE BIG TREE FELL
by Alex Moskios
Look at where the big tree fell,
An open wound was left on this here earth
That might take some time before it heals again;
And it is as if the shallow soil became lifeless
And still: for is it not a tree transmuting
The big bang energy into its godly flesh;
And in so doing give a meaning and a form
To that something that was once a zero and
A not: a singularity that previously existed not,
And yet has but a moment later become a mighty bang,
A galaxy, a sun, a planet, soil, water , and weed;
A fish, a bird, a mighty tree, a monkey, man:
An intellect that now and forever more fills
This mindless space and becomes the measure
Of all things; and in so doing, gives some purpose
To this here earth, to planets and their burning
Suns, the galaxies, the cosmos, and to god!
The mighty tree has fell; and yet, its work is done:
Its seeds will be carried by man and fill the endless
Cosmos below and above: this, the universe of man.
